I have a sump on my 180 gallon and I am currently using seat cushion foam from walmart. I'm looking for something a little finer to use instead. Any ideas? I'm looking for a cheap alternative.

You can try using Polyfil brand Traditional Batting. Just cut the sheet to fit. I've used it in my power filters and it collects a lot of fine debris and can be washed out a few times before throwing it away.

alot of people on here use scrubbies. there are plenty of threads solely on this subject.

Scrubbies are for biological, not mechanical. For mechanical, quilt batting is the cheapest.

I got mine from Hobby Lobby.

It can also be used for mechanical too but obviously not nearly as well as these other materials mentioned that are much finer. I'm unfortunately still using scrubbies in my first mech drawer of my sump till I can buy some filter socks.

OP why don't you just use some filter socks on the plumbing to the sump? I was just lookin' them up the other day cause I need to get some myself and they're only like 10$ or so on bigal's for 200 micron.

The way my sump is set up won't allow filter socks. It would take a tricky overhaul to do it. I'll check out the fabric store after Sunday because they have coupons.
