Or change it more often. I'm looking for something cheap enough to change it every 4-6 months. I've had the same piece in there for over 6 and its about time to retire it.Anything finer will require you to clean it more often.
I buy the polyfill pillow batting at Michaels craft store...it's much cheaper than Wal-mart if you use the 40-50% off coupons that come in the Sunday paper.
Either that or some quilt batting is easily found everywhere. I went to Joann's Fabrics the other day and got a pretty good roll of it for 8 bucks! Its easily enough to make 6-7 1'x1' filter inserts. Is this something that can be bought at any crafts store like AC Moore? I was planning to buying some filter socks soon and didn't think about this sort of option. Seems like it would be much easier to just fill my first sump drawer w/ some of this stuff.
This stuff is great! This is what I just switched from. I prefer quilt batting because it is a little finer material and catches the smaller stuff but this worked great for me for about a year! This what I use, it is for cushions, kinda a firm polyfil. Last me about 2 months in sump on the 450g running at 1500-1600 gph

I also cut this to fit the top tray of my FX5s they go about 4 weeks between cleanings.
