I have a 29 gallon tank that got a case of the green water after I did some maintenance of it's 2213. I tried water changes and other things and nothing seemed to work. After reading about a cheap UV filter on petsmart I figured that I would try it. Here are the before and after pictures. The after pic was taken right after a water change so that water was just a bit cloudy. The glass should of been cleaned a little too. In person it looks great though (my picture taking skills are kinda bleh too)! I think the 40 dollar investment was well worth it :).

that will motivate me to get one

If you are battling green water it is worth a shot :). It has a little blue sponge that I take out and clean everyday to make sure it's working at max efficiency. It isn't a cure all though and this should just be an additional tool to go along with water changes and other maintenance.

I heard these work on parasites as well. I might get one just for that not to mention my green water. Anyone know about their parasite killing abilities?

what would be rhe cause of this in the first place? Maybe too much light?

Too much natural light , Growing real plants , Over nutrition. Sometimes its almost unavoidable however in heavily planted tanks.

Here is the final update. My tank is so clean that it looks like my fish are just floating in the air. I love UV sterilizers now lol. It was a great investment. :)

looks awsome! how is the UV sterilizer hooked up to your filteration? i know bigger tanks have them hooked up to the sump.
