If I Wanted to start with a smaller tank, how much of a smaller tank should I build?

If I wanted to add cichlids and such
Maybe even stingrays..

24 tall 30 x 60 long ???

Does the thickness of the base of the acrylic have to be the same as the thickness of the acrylic used for height? or can they be different?

They can be significantly different, but it all depends on the tank construction. bottom thickness probably wouldn't be enough to make a huge cost difference (for the lessened peace of mind factor, anyway). Unless the tank was ginormous.

Relevant to this topic... my well made acrylic sump (well, I thought it was well made, anyway, for a DIY) cracked AGAIN this week. Maybe my construction method was suspect, but I'd definitely be reluctant to DIY a large acrylic tank without a lot of experience.

so the bottom has to have a good thickness as well right? to support all that water, gravel, and decor

that is definatly cheaper also the price is great 4 the materials

you people need to start checking the last post date before replying.

...but as long as we're talking about it. Bottom thickness can be less than the sides. Some of the larger tanks are built this way, as the bottom is supported. My reply from 2 years ago was before I'd built several large acrylic tanks ;).
