i want to have a pond that would be large enough to house lmb or crappie. if i get lmb it will be 1 and if i get crappie/ or bluegill it would be a small school that would be caugh/eaten if population is too big. want something small but large enough to house them, but that looks nice. dont have much flat land but trying to find something. oo and it has to be kidproof these little kids always run through our yard and dont want them to get hurt

just get a Rubbermaid stock tank...they cheap in a way and good for outdoors and sturdy...if you find a 200-300 gallon one for cheap get it...its better by going with these rubbermaid as their cheaper...but you can always make your own to your needs
thanks i was thinking about that but i know theres different ways. it may work but i have to find a good spot. would it do well in shade?

yes =] it will do ok anywhere as long as you hold it down with rocks around the edge of the tank...but try to give it some lights...as it helps with bacteria and the health of your fishes with some lights...
also once you find the spot...dig that spot and then get a pond liner place it where you have the hole and or just place the rubbermaid tank in their and have the pond liner placed into the rubbermaid tank and place rocks on the edge to hold the pond liner in place and the tank...i wasent really planning on digging it b/c a little kid could fall in or want to swim in it. but i would skip that idea b/c the only good spot for a pond has many trees around it and they'll put holes in anything i put down. so if i did that i would have to get some1 to chop them down and buy the permits so for 6 trees at an easy 300$ each im already out of luck plus to dig the pond and for supplies its already more than 2000$. i think i mite get a 100g tank if parents allow? or just skip it all entirely
Look through the DIY section. Boards or landscape timbers with a liner to make an above ground pond. Get a preformed one(check Craig's List, people sell them off cheap) and build a frame around it. Either way is alot easier than digging. A filter for it can be made cheaply and easily also.
If you put the pond in the ground you then have an excuse to buy a dog too. For the safety of the kids you need the dog to keep them away. Try it on your parents and see if it floats.
