cheapest uv sterilizer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's not great but does the job. Got to watch out for the inlet/outlet adaptors cause they are made of plastic so if turned too hard you will crack it. It got rid of the ick in my brother's marine tank.

what size did he get and for what size tank?
i just need one to get rid of a lil algae.
im planning on getting the smallest, cheapest one.
make it suck out of the sump and pump it back into the sump.
anyone think thats a bad idea?

and thanks for the link, anyone else know any others?

so scorponok your saying you cracked yours:eek:
that must have sucked.
now i know you only want to remove algea but for others, i was wondering with these new units comming out that are insanely small and rated for huge amounts of water i'm afraid that they wont be able to kkep up on the tanks they rate them for...imo:irked:
btw hooking up the sterelizer to the sump would work but i think it would be more effective to hook it up to the return line as all water going to tank would be algea free.. if you get what im saying

I don't know what siz his tank but I loaned him my 36w. It's good to hook up to a pump of the sump, I am doing that now. As far as what you need, you should read this link, and go down to what size UV is best..

I have two and cracked one of them. I tried to fix it but failed. One of these days I am going to find out if I can get a replacment part.

the cheapest is not always the best

you need to get a UV you can get parts and tubes for easy

the hose conections on a UV rot after time 1-2yrs and will need changeing the glass sleeve inside can brake easy and need changeing
the O rings that go on the sleeve rot and need changeing
the tubes only last for 6 months - 1yr and need changeing

dont forget a UV needs to be turned on 24/7 for it to work proberly

^nice link dont feel so bad about buying a turbotwist anymore
You shouldn't... They're the only one I'd like to use... Very convenience to maintain and do a very good job

I just picked this one up on Craig's list for $90.00 Smart UV lite. I had to read up on it and the size of your pump's is were you need to watch in order to maintain proper disposal of propoza and algee. They have many different UV light's and you can always buy a pump for cheaper then the lights from LG. There web site had a lot on it with more the enough information with a lot of different products for you size and needs.

There is a thread at the bottom were you can see it called UV lite? by me.
