Cheapo metal stands

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My old 125 gallon wooden stand sagged in the middle too (bought used). I put a layer of blue foam insulation under the tank in the hope of leveling it out cause I thought the tank might bust if it wasn't supported well enough. It was fine for the almost 2 years I had it. Maybe someday I will attempt to build a stand.

yes i have had a metal stand fail.
we had a 5x20x20 on a metal stand that was clad with wood and when we went to set it up again after a move we noticed the welds were gone.
we had to strip it back down and when we did you could just pull the thing apart.
we made a new one which was solid and then i sold it..

I've just built a wooden stand for my upcoming 108 gal.,,,,,I used 4x4 and 2x4 and 1/2 inch plywood,,,,,I'm confident it will hold up

well i havent baufht one but i have found the easiest way is to make your own. i made my own for a 33 gallon and it is very sterdy.

I made a stand for a 75g (high) using 1-1/2" square steel tubing with 6 legs (2 each end and 2 in the middle) and you could park a semi on it and not worry.
The top of the stand is only about 14" of the ground as it was made to fit beneath a built in media unit.
My wife found some rectangular wicker baskets at Ikea that fit beneath the stand to hide food/supplies etc.Best of all it only cost about $40 for the steel, a few $ for flat black spray paint and $6 each for the baskets. All that holds it together is a few hidden tack welds around the tops of the legs.
If you cant weld any scrap yard or local auto shop will do it for a few bucks.
Anyway it worked out great for me.
