Fall River Ma.
ok so here is the deal. i have a pair of normal convicts who have spawned and now have free swimming fry....
in the tank with them is a male pink about the same size as the regular male and a marble female about the same size as the normal female...and a few regular females...
so no one is intrested in pairing with the pink male....and the pink male isnt intrested in the marble female i bought just for him....
so i bought a beautiful pink female with a large bright orange belly and dorsal fin she is the most beautiful convict i have ever seen... i bought her to pair with the pink male ofcourse....
so what happened is the regular male keeps courting with the new pink female and chasing the male pink away.....but the regular male still has a family with the regular female...
will he leave her to raise the fry on her own??
why wont anyone pair with the pink male???
what about the marble female???
:screwy::confused::screwy:

dominant male will breed is the pink male sub dominant your regular is most likely chasing him off because he is dominant over the pink what size tank they in

as of right now they are ina 55g long tank.....so the dom male will breed with more than one female at a time???? i was under the impression that they were faithful.....
also would it help if i isolated the male and female pink for a while? to hep them bond?

you could try when Ive had more than 1 male together I didnt have 2 breed my 2 dominant cons would do the breeding there was to much agression now I wont keep 2 males together I had a regular male and pink male with three regular females once and it was a disaster they beat the crap out of each other

yes I have had them leave a female for another when I put a new female in I love my cons but I have isolated them all from each other but i am gonna get a female for each of my two big males that are in tanks by themselves.

thats cool....i have 3 breeding pairs in that tank along with the pinks and marble.... :Dthey seem to get along good..there is an occasional scrap....they all spawned on the same day... im waiting to see what happens when the swarms of fry come together as one school...:screwy:
what do u think will happen then??? how long do the fry stay under thier parents care?

till they spawn again maybe 3 weeks then theyll eats the babys to protect the new ones. at least thats what mine did when I had females. how big are the cons I had to separate my 2 males 4 inch regular 6 inch pink my pink dominated the regular so there separated now

the pics before I separated them you can see the regular is a little beat up.

2-5" regular males
1-5" pink (or white) male
3-3" reg females
