Heres a picture of them a few minutes after a water change/gravel vac, they got nice and cozy with each other and started digging a pit!But before i get into that, How does everyone like the Jacks?! I work at my LFS and every now and then people bring fish in that they can no longer care for and just a week and a half ago one of the other guys who works there brought in the female dempsey for me because she was outgrowing his tank. Then just few days ago, a guy came into the store with the massive male dempsey and i snagged him before anyone else could. Apparently the male is about 2.5 years old and is a solid 10 or 11 inches. the female is around 2 years and no bigger than 7 inches. Both of them are still settling down but theyve started feeding and everything seems good. They're in a 75 gallon tank with a small group of silver dollar tetras. I'm actually curious if i need a divider for the Jacks though, because the male dempsey basically immediately started digging bit pits and showing off to the female...sometimes the female is right there with him following him around and nudging her body against his...other times though the male nips at her and chases her all over the tank until shes hiding by one of the filters...but then 15 mins later theyre guarding one of the pits together...do i need a divider or will they settle things on their own...sure seems like theyre gonna breed soon or something.
Let me know what you think!
