Yea my pacu hates them, and basically beats the sh@t out of them when they try to nip his scales.

If you don't mind having a species-only tank... Yes.

They are probably grabbing scales off the pacu to eat which is their favorite food and way more interesting to them than convict fry. Poor pacu

id say get rid of the pacu and exodons

Yea it is your mistake. With proper tank setup anything is possible. Just like in your case....to help your fish grow to maximum potential I would dump battery acid in your tanks. Just to help you out.
