I would suggest a very sturdy divider as trimacs don't make the best mates

I picked up a Trimac about the same size and doesnt look anything like this. Just because you get something from a dealer doesnt mean it is what it is. My buddy ordered an Atabapo I and received an Atabapo II pike, you can clearly see the difference in the two but still insisted it was a I, even thou Rapps did partially refund his money. I will get photos of mine tonight. Mine has the traditional 3 black spots, yours thou has a blotchy black spots all down the body, which if you do a Google image search you will see larger ones have those blotchy black markings down its body as well but its more faded out usually. This guy just needs to grow some more but it will probably turn out to be a Trimac.

+1 They are great fish but this is one of the reason you don't find them a ton, males don't keep females around too well. But I truly wish you the best with it and would say you are going about it the right way with starting them out small.

I hear what he is saying especially with this species. It is really too bad that the hybrid (flowerhorns) are more common then the pure tri-macs. And because of this you need to be careful where you get them. Plus people make mistakes, even breeders. But that is why it seems like the breeders are trying to protect this species so much.

I would strongly believe that this is a Tri-mac until it appears otherwise, which you will need to wait until it grows more. Kind of like innocent until proven guilty (or in this case Tri-mac unitl proven Flowerhorn). We as a hobby have become very cynical with all the hybrids that are so abundant and everyone wants to label something as unpure.

Mixing up Flowerhorn with a Trimac or even Lyonsi is the kinda mistake that would devastate someones reputation as a seller. I honestly doubt that Rapps would make that kind of mistake. Rapps is hands down one of the most respected sellers in the community. There is nothing on that fish that would lead me to believe that its not a pure Trimaculatus.

Exactly! That's why I got them from Rapps, and you guys that dout it's a Trimac if you do your research Trimacs do have more then three spots on some, it's the there big spots that distinguish there name. Plus I have 20 of them and they all look the same, they have nice red fins, and some like the one in the pic have blue around the spots and some don't. Also it's not In the pics but there mouths are much bigger when open then fh.

You have to Remember there are a lot of Trimacs out there but very few that look like big robust and have crazy red and yellows and blues.

I'm hoping this guy turns out like that! That's why I chose Rapps.

If I can get some to look like these guys Im one happy camper and a dedicated customer to Rapps.View attachment 754875

Im assuming the spots on mine will fade as he gets bigger.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I will keep you updated on his progress
