those are moon crabs or helloween crabs patriot crabs whatever you want to call them i have a group of them at home and have been keeping them for a couple years now

I have got them in my shop before under the name Patriot Crab. (Cardisoma Armatum) I think from Africa.

They are not fully aquatic so give them land. THe water you keep with them can be fresh or slightly brackish. THey are messy so be prepaired to clean the tank often. They are not picky eaters, will eat about anything offered. THy are pretty agressive too.

I am not aware of these being refered to as a mangrove crab. I have seen them sold under the name rainbow crab and sometimes moon crab. THe crab I am aware of that is sold under the name mangrove crab is definetly not what you have.

I think that they are the Geracarcinus ruricola, I have seen them every once in a while starting in 1974. A friend owned a few and they were very aggressive feeders. They would eat anything and since he was a sick bastard he would freak people out by feeding them live mice. This pic is by Chris Lukhaup. They are sometimes sold as halloween crabs, mangrove crabs, and even soldier crabs. I could be wrong though without the two side by side for comparison.

I wonder if these crabs are seasonal. I have notice many distributors have them right now for sale. They are calling them Halloween crabs, rainbow crabs & moon crabs. I'm pretty sure this is the same thing that I have bought as patriot crabs too...
