They grow FAST. Sinking carnivore pellets are good, hikari sinking cichlid pellets are good... bloodworms, generally meaty foods that it can fit in its mouth at this point. Don't be discouraged if it won't eat the offerings for a few days, it'll come around, and once it does, there's no stopping it.

BTW, Wal-Mart is strongly considering NOT selling live animals in the future. A buddy of mine is a Security Director at Wal-Mart here in North Houston & the general opinion seems to be that the small revenues they get from fish & reptile sales no longer outweigh the expenses & protests. They will continue to sell all other fish/pet products, but no live stock. The Walmart by my house already scrapped their tanks about 3 months ago, so expect the trend to spread.

Most of the Wallys up north didn't have fish. I didn't realize they sold polys, that surprises me. Maybe I'm too "old skool" but I can't stop thinking of Polypterus as rare; seeing them at Walmart just seems out of place.
