These guys were for sale at my LFS. They were priced at $99.99, which I think is pretty good.

I was impressed by the size and color. I don't know if the pictures do them justice but they all had very nice red markings and were between 14" and 18". I've never seen them for sale at that large of a size before. They had about six of them.

This does bring up a question for me though. I have two fire eels that are currently around 7-8" long. Their color is not nearly as striking as these larger ones and their markings are mostly yellow and orange. Is it common for the color to become more vivid and gain more red as they get older/larger?

I've paid as low as $5 for a fire eel that size with the same amount of red....although price fluctuates area to area...however I think the color does/will get more vivid although there are some that are completely black and some that are extremely red it just depends

You guys are seeing those prices for 14-18" fire eels?

Well, SoCal doesn't count. As I have heard people say before, you guys are tripping over everything to do with the aquarium hobby. Lol

Oh? Well then.....

To the OP Dont worry about price tag. Fish is worth as much as you would want to pay for it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you feel they have a nice look to them and really enjoy them have at it!

Maybe my lfs gets a good deal on them. I only have one lfs in the area would would carry the. But it's not the first time I see a big difference in price from location to location.
