No, I seriously doubt that, if you follow my link "RocketEngineer" wrote his tread on 07/24/2007, 08:59 PM, Pharaoh became a member of MFK on Feb 2008. Not saying Pharaoh's thread was not informative it was; :D in fact it just reassured and inspired me to go ahead and build mine!!! :headbang2 No offence just like giving credit to were credit is due.

Correct. Not my design. Just picked it up along the way. Someone else posted it here and I saved it as a reference for others.

IMO, there's no need for 2x8s, 2x4s would be fine for a 300 gallon as long as you had a couple extra vertical supports in the middle. You could even go with 4x4s, but 2x8s are overkill.

Sorry, first time I saw it was when Pharaoh posted it here. :)

Your design for your stand look well thought out. I only have one question concerning your design, though. Are you going to put a sheet of plywood across the top of your stand? Maybe have it fit down inside of the frame top to help support the bottom of your tank, instead of just the outside edges? IMO, it would be like trying to have a table without a top to set things on. I'm not critisizing, just curious and trying to understand your method of reasoning. Please advise. Thank you.

I like the design but I would add more cross bracing. Also, go with the 2x8s. I have a 300G sitting on 2x6s with a single center support and you can see the 2x6s sagging just a tiny tiny bit. With no center support, I would not trust it. You can see the stand design I found on here on my thread below. Oh, and dont paint it those colors!

Yes i did put a sheet of plywood and added more bracing under the plywood because my tank is acrylic.

I just reviewed your build and i think the reason for the sag is the length of you tank is the max span for a 2x6. check this link out http://www.awc.org/calculators/span/calc/timbercalcstyle.asp?species=Southern+Pine&size=2x6&grade=No.+2&member=Floor+Joists&deflectionlimit=L/360&spacing=16&wet=No&incised=No&liveload=40&snowload=-1&deadload=20&submit=Calculate+Maximum+Horizontal+Span my tank dimensions are 80x24x36. I have already built the stand but have yet to fill it with water to check it out. ( i have a crack in the bottom that i need to repair.) I have no center bracing because the calculator above says i should be okay. I can't have one anyway because that is the only way i can put my sump tank under the stand, the sides are just two narrow.

Heavens Ross, the guy might start a new fad if he paints it the colors he has on his diagram :j/k: No seriously, I must agree with you in selection of colors. With your sagging, how will that effect your tank if any? You have a lot invested in your 300 gal. and would be truly sad for any adverse effects. Hope all is and goes well.

I am building a stand for a 46 gallon bowfront, i planned on using this build but cut sheets of plywood(one for the top and one for the bottom) to match the bow of the tank. This would leave the bow front of the tank unsupported though. I want to add braces to the front but not sure of a good way to go about it.

Oh, it wont! The sag is very very slight. I bet it's not 1/16"!
