I was never trying to be glorified... just thought it was funny that they were calling me "the Bichir Chick" and that I made it on their website. And I don't consider myself their keeper.... I'm Mommy. ALL of my bichirs have names, which I remember and call them by (stupid, I know) and I'm attached to each and every one of them. I don't keep them as trophies, they're my kids.
Well "KEEPER", at my count you have 30 bichers! Half will top out at around 10-14", the other half at 24" plus. And since I've had bichers live into their 20's and heard of others living into their 30's, you have certainly taken on a huge commitment to your "kids"! Feedings, water changes, seperately to another tank, moving across town, doctoring.......etc. Since many of our bichers are wild caught, they have endured alot of hardships and traveled half way around the world to get here, as good stewards we always must put their needs first! Overcrowding is not good! It would be like being locked in your bathroom for the rest of your life. Doesn't make happy fish. I don't question your caring and enthusiasm, just your risks!
They're totally worth it, and I'm just becoming more infatuated with the species. I'll admit without shame that my hobby HAS become more of a job than a hobby and I don't mind one bit. Smaller tanks have turned into bigger tanks, bigger tanks have been duplicated... More filters upon more filters... More tank decorations.... It goes on and on. It's a job I enjoy and always make time for, even when realistically I shouldn't... (for instance... last year the only day I was late was when I was over a half hour late because I couldn't get one of the filters on my 29 going... stay up way to late when I have to work early to finish my water changes... I know my fish will grow. I know they'll need more space soon enough, and I'll be ready. They're something I'd like to keep in my family for a long time to come, and that's why I don't have a problem spending as much time/money on them as I do. These AREN'T fish that live 5 years and quake. They're in it for the long haul and that makes them worth it to me
