Hi,
I have been a member here as a "read only" for several months, but am thinking its time to start posting, so I will start with a post here.

I am a Marine Biologist/ ichthyologist by trade and an educator by practice. Professionally I work mostly with an assortment of shark and tuna species. I have been keeping fish in aquaria for the better part of 20+ years.

I am not sure my "monsters" are quite what the rest of you call monsters, but I do have some large fish and large tanks. I don't have a tank big enough to hold a tuna yet, but I can dream, right?

At the moment my largest tank is a 210 gallon. I hope to have that upgraded into one at least 350-500 gallons with in the next 3-5 years. My largest fish are a hybrid tilapia that I have had since his parents spawned him, he is about 15" long and a red bellied pacu that is growing so fast measurements are irrelevant. He's bigger than the tilapia and is the sole resident of the 210 for now.

I adopted the pacu from a 20 gallon tank off of craig's list figuring it was so stunted it wouldn't grow much. It was 3 years old. Apparently a larger tank and clean water was good for it as it was only about 6" long last Feb!! It has trippled its size in 6 months! I fear I am going to need that bigger tank before Christmas.

I have both fresh and salt water tanks of many sizes. I have been in the hobby both as a scientist and as a hobbiest for a long time.

Howdy and Welcome to MFK! Sounds like you've found the right place, now how about some pic's of your fish? heh

:welcome:

Pictures are easy....

The tilapia about 2 years ago. Note the ruler!

He sat so nice and still in a bucket for me the last time I moved him from one tank to another I had to take this picture!

I briefly put the two of them together.... that lasted less than a month, but looked pretty cool. The pacu was still pretty little then.

This is a more recent pic of the pacu, but there is no size reference unless you count the 4" algae cleaner on the glass.
