I'd rather have a lake sturgeon than a shovelnose. Can you get a permit for those?

i don't think so...they are so "rare" that they have a closed season in the entire state execpt canada and wisconsin borders...wisconsin border is 60" min and they have to be registered with the state...i would have to try and find a farm and buy a mass stock from them...even then idk if i could sell them cross state lines...all the other sturgeons are in better populations then lake sturgeons...i will ask when i ask about permits for game fish...but i doubt i will be able to get one...

ya...i have had 2 potential MN record hook and line bowfin on the line that got off...i have seen a record bowfishing carp i missed it by inches infront of the nose...an 84lbs carp was shot out of bald eagle lake...that is the current record carp shot...yet the record caught is only 55lbs...goes to show that just cause a record on a fish is there doesn't mean that it is the max size of a fish...
