  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

He said he could feel a SMALL current, he didn't say he got a jolt from it....
Thats why I said to stick his hand in.

Obviously he has worked in the tank as it is, and is still none the worse for wear...

a small problem may turn into a large one. 120vac is the biggest killer when it comes to electricity. Do not play around with household voltage. it only takes 10ma to kill you.

Alright, makes sense. If I may change my response, dig out that multimeter to find the problem. Its true, better safe than sorry. I work in electroplating, but it is the opposite, massive amperages but with voltages only up to ~5V, you can't even feel it, I guess I have got too used to grabbing live cables etc...;)

If you can actually feel the current when you put your hand in, you don't need the multimeter to tell you which component is causing it.
Just unplug each component one by one and stick your hand in. If you can no longer feel the "twinge", then you have found the faulty piece.

Man you are some kinda of ...:lipsseale You are giving advise that you no nothing about and could lead to someones death. If he were to stick his hand in the tank and become the path to ground, HE COULD BE KILLED. At 120vac you heart can be stopped by as little as .05 milli amps.

starionesir to be safe you should have your accessories on your tank plugged into a GFCI (ground fault circut interupter). Although you may find if the is a problem it will trip the GFCI when you test. Wtih this though you need to take precautions. You could also get some rubber gloves which would insulate you from the current.

Please read the post above yours, I have corrected my outlook on this issue. I gave some bad advice in a post, and have so been corrected. I would never want someone to be injured by some of my "advice". Please feel free to browse through my past postings, I really am not a total *******. I made a mistake, please don't crucify me too badly for it.
This is a good lesson on not believing everything you read on the internet!

meter set on ac volts low range
ground one meter lead to the ground ( third prong) on an outlet or if a metal box the cover screw is grounded.

test the water with the other lead.

what you feel as small may in fact be large but if you are not grounded feels small...............BARE FEET ON WET FLOOR IT COULD BE LETHAL !!!

PLEASE PROCEDE WITH CAUTION.
