Where is this lake located? I know you said NY but can you give us a more specific location?

the lake is crooked lake. i believe it is in sand springs NY I think . It drains into glass lake.from their it empties over a dam.

Well its certainly within their range of the redbreast. Still, the fish you photographed is not a hybrid.

The only reason i think it's a cross is because i have had a grater sample size to look at. I agree color alone doesn't tell you much but when you add in body structure and color being totally different than the resident pseed,along with the habits Ive observed. screams high bred. The ones I try to keep have all been mean as hell to every fish in the tank including non sun fish.

I have to agree with others, its only normal pumkinseed as Ive seen that coloration before.

Now those may be hybrids, bluegill/pumpkinseed I would say. The fish you originally posted could also be a hybrid, they are often difficult to distinguish. Still, I think it is a pumpkinseed, I don't see any features on it that scream out bluegill (or other sunfish species).
