i was wondering how many of you use chemicals in your tanks?i have had cichlids for over 30 years now and the only chemical i have ever used is salt. ive had hard water soft water and well water had a sisterin which caught rain water and city water and not once have i ever had to use chemicals. so i was wondering what gives with all these people contaminateing there fish?

Are you refering to water conditioners or medication?
I never use meds but do use thiosulphate to knock out chloramines when using tap water. If I use RO water then I add buffer and rify lake salt.
I keep tangs and mbuna.

i use whatever chemicals are needed to get a job done stopping short of methelyne blue cos that stuff is horrid.

only place i use meds is in Qtanks.. even this almost never happens because i only get healthy fish and they spend time in the qtank before they get to the maine tanks..

I use amquel or prime to remove chrlorine and chloromines from my tap water. On occation I have used medications to help sick fish.
