Hello all

Recently was able to set up a rack for small fish and I am delighted to get back to my youth and keep crayfish again as my new rack allows me some space.

I have acquired a group of C. warsamsonicus and much to my disappointment, they're all male, dashing my dreams of breeding until I can source confirmed females. All 4 are mature.

In the meantime, I am wondering what other species of cherax they can hybridize with?

I am fully aware of the implications of creating hybrids and any hybrids I create will be responsibly dealt with. I am under the impression intentionally hybridizing cherax sp. can be frowned upon, but this is not going to change my decision.

Additionally this will give me the experience I need raising the young and breeding so when I can source females, I am prepared. Ultimately, there is every intention of breeding pure warsamson, once the appropriate pieces are available.

Are there any known crosses that turn out well or colorful? Tips on breeding cherax in general?

I currently have 4 males in a 75 with PVC condos, being fed vegetables and pellets as a primary diet, with raw fish or shrimp once a week. All are getting on well, and I have additional tanks to spread this project into it needed

I wouldn't hybridize them myself (saying so with hybrid fish in my tank😀).
They did produce an all male hybrid here in OZ, between Cherax albidus and Cherax rotundus,
Here is some C. albidus that I used to breed,

And some C. quadricarinatus I also bred,

Neither of these species are available in the US right now. I don't think I've seen them available in a very long time lol but I'd give a lot to have a group of either 😂

Was very excited to acquire the Cherax warsamsonicus, but was sent all male by the supplier so I find myself in a tricky spot.

Thank you for the info on the hybrids!
