Well, after years of sitting on the fence about getting into crayfish keeping I finally took the plunge with a nice young pair of C. destructor (Yabby). Mine are the normal color phase, not the bright blue one. I am pretty excited about them and so far they are really doing well. I cannot believe how massive their claws are already at such a small size (~3 inches). They really do resemble miniature Maine lobsters!!

Here is a photo of the female. Any advice or suggestions is welcome!!

Thanks!!!

cool, the blue ones one would be nice as well
Thanks :)
Yes, the blue pearl crays are really nice. I was told they do not get as large as the "normal" color variant. I have no idea if that's true or not, though. Makes little sense to me since they are reported as the same species (C. destructor). Anyway, they will probably be next on the list if I have good luck with this pair.

Nice looking yabby mate, i originaly put several tiny yabby's in my tank as feeders but my fish didnt like them , i gave a few away and used some as fishing bait but i kept 3 of them in my tank as pets, yours is looking huge.

What do you feed yours?

Cheers-

Dazz

Yea, that's not true. At least not in my experience, all my blues and albinos got huge just like the normal variants. Nice cray, though, they're awesome irrespective of the coloration. A word of advice though, never get tagged by those claws. Even at that size, they can break skin... they have a huge amount of power compared to a lot of other species. And they focus a lot of pressure on where the claws hook in at the end. 0_0;; Otherwise, you'll have a lot of fun with these, they're great!

did i read right? YOU HAVE ALBINO DESTRUCTORS? i have 2 pairs of the blue pearl but man, albinos are something i'd be very interested in. very interested in seeing those, any chance you post some pics?

Thank you soo much! I took some peas out of a bag of mixed frozen veggies. And my baby LOVES THEM!!!

I've had yabbys most my life and enjoy keeping them a lot ATM I have 1 male and two females all around 3 inches long as my large pair died due to a filter malfunction while on holiday
