cherry shrimp care?

anyone know if these shrimp prefer gravel or sand? or does it not matter cause they'll cling to plants and driftwood the whole time

they like the japanese type of soil for planted tanks that im using now.they dont like smooth surface

they've been hanging on my driftwood keeping that clean. it has a loose cover of java moss as well so they've doing fine. i've also got cherry shrimp in another tank with no tankmates, white sand, and plants. they are more often sifting through the sand than on the plants.
