Ok I'm going to be making a weekend trip with my g/f to chicago and it looks like we are planning on staying for two nights and three days. We are looking at a hotel that's only 2 miles away from the shedd. and we will be going there.

So my question is what else is near the area that we shouldn't miss?

Food, Shopping, other attractions. anything that you think we shouldn't miss.

If it's something that has a website I can look at that would be great.

Thanks for all the help.

I'm not from Chicago but when I visited my brother we did the Shed aquarium, actually the whole Museum row. It's a great place to spend a day. Checked out Navy Pier, caught the "L Train, checked out Wrigley Field, ate at The Originals Gino's East Pizza. For seafood I tried Bob Chinn's Crabhouse. Do the sky deck @ Willis (formerly Sears Tower). This was about a weekends excursion.

I'd recommend the boat ride along the river... boat boards around Michigan ave. and the river...
The architecture trolley tour is pretty good also.
For bar hopping... go to Wrigleyville at night.... it's always very lively there every night.
If you like shows and comedy... second city (North ave. and @ La Salle) has various types comedic/theatrical performances, etc. all the time.

I did this last time I went for the weekend. Of course, don't forget the Blue Man Group.

Tons of fun things to do here! There is lots of good museum's. The museum of science and industry is one of my favorites, it's really fun. They do segway tours now. There are several famous blues bars. Ed Debevic's is a fun 50's style restaurant where the servers insult you. Theres a Bar called sluggers that has midget wrestling and other random fun things. Michigan Ave or Water tower place for shopping. Tons and Tons of great food places. Then of course all the usual stuff people have mentioned like navy pier, wrigly, sears tower, shedd....

oh Chicago is my favorite town!i used to be stationed in Great Lakes-just a skip and jump away.. and last year i went back-stayed at a hotel within walking distance of the Shedd- you need to go to the Field museum, the planetarium-its all in the same area.. there is an aeronautical museum and flight museum.. a ton of art galleries.. you can literally just get online, print off a map of attractions and just walk!

while youre there, you HAVE to eat a deep dish chicago style pizza- youll only be able to eat one piece its so massive and about 3 inches thick!

Thanks for all the help. So Am I safe to say that if i'm within 2-3 miles of the shed and close to michigan ave. I can spend most of my time in those areas?

yes-michigan avenue and that whole area is where the action is at. i remember before i went, i went online and did a search for a map of activities.. it showed me where the museums were, and points of interest.. try using yahoo or google and do a search to find a map of chicago museums and stuff... it helped us! have fun!! i think i stayed on michigan avenue, and just walked across the street and there is a walkway that leads straight down to shedds and the field museum..

oh and do a favor-wear VERY comfortable tennis shoes! you will do alot of walking-we made the mistake of wearing sandals.. and we paid for it..

the pizza place i was told to eat at by my boss was "Gino's"-they specialize in deep dish.. and if its just the two of you-trust me, get a small pizza! you wont be able to eat even half of it! lol

fyi-the taxi drivers are crazy there! youll fear for your life lol.. ours almost got in a fist fight with another driver-it was wild lol
