Is raw chicken good or bad for carnivorous fish? I know mammalian flesh is bad for most fish, but am not too sure about chicken.

I feel the oils in chicken meat will foul your water. Don't use it.

i feed cooked chicken a few times a week, my cichlids love it. oven cooked only though, deep fried would not be good.:)

Deep fried means it would not get past me anyway! I know Beblondie has recomended chicken gizzards for polys though, would they have a large oil content as well?

interesting topic... never thought about chicken as a type of food for fish other than possibly P's... but would be good to see what peoples thoughts are on this... i know i'm a little curious now...

I would recommend against any mammalian based protein fed to aquarium fish.

Last time I checked chickens weren't mammals. Or did you mean any warm blooded animals?

i understand the arguement against some meats like ham because of the fat content. Imo lean chicken dosent do any harm, in fact the colouring on my firemouth and cribs is far more pronounced since i started using it.
dont know about the gizzards ive only used breast thus far.

Why??? I see many opinions but no factual answers other then water quality what would be the problem with doing so I have seen catfish and other primarily meet eating fish like cichlids raised on hot dogs, beef heart, bacon, pink mice, and lots of other fatty tissues not found in their natural habitats with no harmful aftereffects. I'm not saying it's healthy or should be a staple food by any means but can any real harm be proven? Nature does not always provide such opportunities but if a chicken where to for some odd reason die at the cost of a lake, I think a few of our beloved monsters would at the least investigate a free meal befor completely discarding it if not devouer it whole. Whether it would harm them in the long run is simply a question we don't have an answer to until further studies are made...
