Chiclid Habitat

Although it looks nice when they are in a tank that matches there environment, it isn't necessary. When it comes to ph, most cichlids are pretty hardy and adapt well to most water conditions (although some species are more likely to breed in water closer to that in their natural habitat). As far as decor goes, I'd just make sure they at least have a few hiding spots to claim as their own. It will make them more comfortable.

Ok would you reccommend me get each one it's own hiding spot or one big one?

Individual hide's and some decoration to hopefully act as territory boundaries for your fish. They need a place to retreat to when they feel threatened and a sanctuary to protect. That's the cichlid way. Hard fish to create comm's for you really need to know the fishes temperment and even then it's hard cause each fish is an individual and may not fit the norm. That's why I like predators usually peaceful as long as they don't fit in their mouths the tankmates are okay. Cichlids though attack for reasons other than food so can be somewhat tricky.

it's really what you enjoy looking at. I have seen tanks with plastic plants and sunken ships and the fish seem happy. wild fish can feel more comfortable in a biotope but it's not a must. just remember that the more hiding places they have the more they will stay in the open.

I couldn't agree more I love their aggression to eat plus they tend to have a certain bravodo about them and exudes cockiness!!
