Why do goonch cats do this? lol

I saw her doing this while I was on lunch break today and took the opportunity to measure her. She's bigger than I had thought now! I kind of wish she'd grow a little faster. Forgive the crappy lighting in this picture, I didn't have all of the tank lights on. The bluish lights I did have on aren't flattering to her colors. :/

All of mine do it! even the juveniles!

There's not really any current there. I actually suspect that she does that on occasion to get out of the current. She wedged herself between the powerhead and the glass and had her tail on that rock.

My Tig spends about 50% of it's life like that. It used to be more like 80%. I stuck a PVC tube in there a month ago and for the last 2 weeks it spends part of the daylight hours in there. The first few months I had it it hung under the HOB flow but now it does it in the corner where there is no real current. It seems to be a predatory catfish thing, as I have never seen any other type of fish do this with regularity.

My jur used to act just like that.

Dottie doesn't do it very regularly. I've yet to figure out what her impetus for this occasional behavior. She seems to really enjoy laying on flat, smooth river rocks facing into the current. She seems to really enjoy being wedged between large rocks while she's laying on flat, smooth river rocks while facing into the current.

With those predilections in mind, I arranged some rocks by the front glass so I can keep an eye on her. She keeps herself wedged between the rock and the glass. She's like this at least 90% of the time.

That's kind of steep, but it's comparable to what you'd pay if you bought off of the internet and had to pay shipping, too.

Wow really now?. He also had a wallago cat but price was unknown. I'm guessing he overprices his fish. He had a 7 inch albino silver aro for 1800. Is that steep as well?

Yeah, $219 is a fair price for a goonch if you don't have to pay shipping. $1800 for an albino silver aro is actually a very good price believe it or not.

When a tig or jurunese do that it's stress and has nothing to do with a predatory catfish thing, it's what Brachyplatystoma cats do when stressed. . Give it a big hiding place and flow and it will stay on the bottom. Not necessarily the same for a goonch but it is for Brachyplatystoma cats.
