Just wondering how many of you guys have little children in the house with Ray tanks?

Being they have stingers I'm a little cautious of having them with a 2 year old in the house. Maybe a little bit over cautious as I have never had rays and I know they don't really go out of there way to spear someone but is there always the fear of kids hands in the tanks unsupervised and gets me a little hesitant in keeping rays.

How do you keepers deal with this situation?

Of course the best way would be to educate the child forsure.

Assuming you are getting a tank on a stand and not a low level pond then i don't see the issue. There are worse thangs that could happen if a little one decides to climb up and get into a tank full of water surely?

Top of the tank will be 50 inches. Maybe I will raise it another couple inches. Your right about that with the water period!

Thanks

I have small kids but i have blocked off all access so the kids cant jump in or touch.

Depending on your setup you may be able to childproof the lid somehow

I hear ya, ya I was thinking the same thing about a lid lock of some sort... Thanks

What about a wood canopy with a latch?

I've never had one of my 4 boys try to get into the tank, but I do have latches on it to keep the arowanas from jumping out. My 1 year old put the TV remote in the sump the other day and then started pulling all the K1 media out and throwing it on the floor. The remote still worked too. It was in there for less than a minute. Now my 1 yr old shakes his head from side to side and says"No, no, no, no,no,no, no"

I wouldn't tell them not to it gives them an excuse to do it. Just show them they're dangerous and def keep a lid or canopy on there. Fish are just animals your children are your life...
