salt simply melts the ice by reducing the freezing point....

The water can get colder than 32 degrees without freezing. The ice doesn't melt as fast, so the water gets colder.

since the salt lowers the freezing point of the water, the ice brings the water temeprature to the same temperature as the ice without freezing it.

ummm, you can't freeze the water with just ice in the first place... so what's the point?? salt is used to melt ice quickly, this method has been used whenever it snows. so the "ice doesn't melt as fast" is not true. which means, the salt is melting the ice faster than usual, therefore, not chilling the coke for as long if without the salt.
