just how fast do these guys grow? can they keep up with pbass and oscars? how bout gator gars and Rtcs?
the sci name is Mxyocyprinus asiaticus...

i would love to get one but don't know with who to put em...:/

They are also called Chinese Sailfin Suckers. I have read that they grow quickly if you feed them the right foods and they do get big as far as I know. But I'd recommend only putting them in the tank with the other fish when they've grown a bit and they can't fit in the other fish's mouths anymore. Apparently they are grown for food in some asian countries:(. So they must get quite big. Here are websites you can visit:

I hope it helps! :)

From what I have heard, they are a cold water specie. So, they wouldn't really mix with the fish you listed. They look cool when they are young, but get kind of ugly as the grow.

You'll need to keep them in a group or so websites mention. They should never be sold in the trade anyway.:( Who wants a group of ugly 3-ft adults anyway?:grinno:

haha! i agree... are they really illegal? i'm from the philippines and i can easily access them...@_@ well not as easy as guppies.. haha anyway, i'd really like to keep em for the sake of the "collection"... i see no ugly fishes.. there are only Monster fishes... and feeders! haha! >:)

Just as I suspected judging by your name.:D I'm from the Philippines as well.:grinyes:

they arent illegal in the US, see em all the time in big chain stores. I thought about it for awhile for some goldies but the size thing wasnt working for me.

These are a somewhat slow grower. I've heard reports of specimens only growing 3" a year! .25" a month. They grow 3 feet, sometimes bigger. Also are popular in chinese public aquariums.

:OMG: BIG AND UGLY. They look really nasty. Look at the size of that tank . No use in keeping them. If you have a small tank, it's cruel and if you have a big tank it's just darn fugly. I think they take beauty away from the tank instead of adding it. And to top it off they get even uglier than this when they reach their adult size. They are so cute when they're small, but after seeing this photo I have decided to never buy one. If they're endangered species, nobody should buy them.
