Awesome carp boat that took off from Guilin with us

Beautiful waterfalls...The Li river is surrounded by mountains that emerge abruptly from the earth

Villiagers/Merchants on their rafts

These guys paddled up and docked with us to make some sales

Mountains on the Li River
picture.php

It was pretty smoggy on this day
picture.php

Terrace farming on the sides of the river
picture.php

There were also tons of cool looking structures like this, and other pathways and tributaries that were begging to be explored
picture.php

A street in Yangshuo...the proximity between the touristy areas and the residences and areas frequented by native people was stunning. There was so much to see in this city and it was great to feel like you could experience a significant chunk of it
picture.php

A more tourist oriented area...really nice nonetheless
picture.php

Beautiful lake in the center of the city proper
picture.php

Our hotel had a rooftop garden that afforded a view of the majority of the city proper...it was beautiful to hang out here and digest after meals while watching the city bustle

Bike ride through the back roads of Yangshuo...it was great to see the farms rural areas that surrounded the city
picture.php

The scenery alternated between valleys like this, rice farms, and small villages

Visit to a tea plantation/research institute

Tea ceremony presentation

Elephant rock park...I refused to take a picture of the actual elephant rock since it seemed like a huge scam to charge admission to an otherwise pretty normal park...google it if you're curious
picture.php

Here's another example of what an elephant really looks like (not like elephant rock )

Lovers park (attached to elephant rock park)

Guilin was beautiful...they loved neon and bright lights. It was really reminiscent of Las Vegas without the preoccupation with gambling. This sort of design and decoration was pretty common among the buildings in the city
picture.php

wow that looks like an amazing time...so beautiful there and its crazy how clean the streets are in that market

Its really cool how they keep it clean...the state employs tons of people to just wander around the cities with a dustpan on a stick and a broom made of some sort of branch picking up trash. It works really well. All of the cities that I visited were extremely clean.

Plane ride over...crazy windswept mountains with tons of little farms at their base
picture.php

Beautiful foothills with snow capped mountains in the background. It was a crazy transition to go to the windy, dry feet of mountains after being in hot humid cities.

Tibetan flags that signify a funeral or burial
picture.php

Yaks(?) There were tons of different animals in this part of China
picture.php

I wasn't aware when I took the picture, but this was her job...she got paid to pose for tourists. I wasn't aware tourists really visited this town (it was over 2 hours out of Xining, which is a pretty untouristy place to begin with).
picture.php

The animals were pretty docile...they like to just chill around wherever. Lots of cows just hangin out on the side of the road.
picture.php

Very kind farmer/merchant. There are tons of cool fruits and nuts that are widely available in China that I've never seen before. Many of the merchants give you a sample to entice you to buy.
picture.php

The town had a really weird arrangement that juxtaposed old and abandoned buildings next to newly build, pristine gas stations and other establishments
picture.php

We were ambushed by these gypsy-type Tibetans that wanted us to ride their horses for a few bucks. Many of them wore surgical style facemasks and had most of their heads covered...it was pretty surreal.
picture.php

They were incredibly persistent and a few people finally gave in
picture.php

They took the horses through the saltwater lake, Ching Hai

Kinda sketchy gypsy type

Nice merchant lady that I brought a bracelet from

View of the lake

Middle of nowhere shot
picture.php

It reminded me of the American Southwest a bit
picture.php

Pretty sure these were cat pelts at the market

Locals at the market

Stupas at Ta Er Monastery
picture.php

Main prayer hall, I think
picture.php

Right after being blessed by the abbot of the abbot of the monastery, a Living Buddha. We got to keep the scarf things (I forgot the name) that signify the blessing
picture.php

Nice garden outside one of the buildings
picture.php

Scarves can also be placed in tons of places around the monastery to ask for specific blessings
