Not immediately, but if an area stays wet the hair will fall out.

That's from a secondary issue caused by the fur staying moist too long, not simply the fur getting wet.

Some people believe that if a chinchilla even has water touch it the fur will fall out, and that's what I thought you were getting at.

Nice chin BTW :)
My husband used to have one, but unfortunately we were moving around a lot for his job and we could not keep it since we weren't sure when we were going to stick in one place again. It wasn't fair because it didn't get enough attention but luckily the new owners built it a very large enclosure and it gets lots of needed attention.

hi,i have a male chin.his name is chewy.i have a 3 tower cage with ledges,2 hammocks, some wood bird toys that hang,a dust house(i only put a little in the dust house cause when they're done bathing they use it as a potty)make sure you clean it and refill it at least 2 or 3 x's a week, water bottle,i put a beach towel over the top of the cage so he feels secure, corner litter box that he uses all the time, and some small stuffed dog toys cause he loves to play with them and "hump" them, and a couple of igloos for him to sleep in.i use a child gate to block off our den so at night when we watch tv he can run around. i guess they live for 25 years, that's a long time!:)

*Dust baths should be given to your chinchilla 2-4 times a week. It removes all oil from the fur.
*Dont give your chinchilla too many fruits or vegetables, they are very senstive and these can give them a upset stomache and cavites. Good treats are dark leafy greens (no head lettus).
*If you buy a huge platic ball for him to run around in never leave him(or her) in it longer than 30-40 minutes.
*They live a long time, I know someone that has had one for 32 years.
*If you hurt them or they think you hurt them they have great memory and they will hold it against you for a long time.
*DO NOT feed charly chinchilla food or other types of food that have a mix of a bunch of crap in it. It will make them sick and shorten their life span by almost half. Feed a pellet only diet and unlimited amounts of hay, NO alfalfa hay after 6 months age.
*Make sure you have a multi-level cage and you always buy new toys for your chinchilla. They are very smart and if they get bored they will eat their fur.
*Seeds are not good for chinchillas, so its a bad idea to buy treats with seed, especially sunflower seeds, in them.

thanks good info
