I'm thinking of getting one of these, can anyone give me some info? Care, growth rate, diet, behaviour etc

I gather they are a coldwater fish, how do they do in tropical temps? Do they do fine like gars and pike and goldfish or do they really need coldwater?

Cheers,
RS

John informed me that they are best in cold water. You can still put them in warm water. They are best w/ goldfish. About growth, i've got mine for like over a month now and never notice them grow.

I saw a group of them at the Newport aquarium and the current in the tank was very strong so go figure,
hill streams of China=lots of water movement. My 2 cents

They grow very slow.

steve - how slow are we talking? This fish is only about 1.5 inches, so if it is that slow growing I'll give it a miss, it'll never catch up to my other fish.

They have a hard time with warm water. It seems to thin them down too much, and there fins fray very easy. I wouldn't recommend any warmer that 75 if possible.

i've gt two small ones...abt 20 cm.....they do fine in warm water bt take close to forever to grow....however...if ur patient....u can get them to grow huge...

Not sure mate. Ive never kept them. But they do grow VERY slow from what others have told me.

I will be purchasing some in the future though.

The one I had acclimated quickly and started to eat immediately, so that's one good thing to consider.
