So i guess the arowanas get into the us, by people driving into canada, going to a fish store that sells them, and then buy them and drive back into the states?

seems to easy to be true? whats the catch lol.

and for all you people wondering, No, I have no intention of doing this, Just trying to broden my knowledge of asian arowanas.

first, they actually chip the fish at 6"-8" inches. Second, you don't just stroll across the border from Canada to the US. It is a different country you know. You run the risk of the border inspector looking through your car. Third, I think what you were asking is whether they could find a chipped aro in a box full of fish. Yes and no. The transponder has to be within pretty close proximity of the reader for it to pick up the frequency. They couldn't hold a scanner over the box and know right away. Also, if the fish was never chipped (i.e. came from a "back yard" breeder) they wouldn't show up anyway. Lastly, they don't actively scan every fish shipment with a RFID scanner since there shouldn't be any fish with RFID tags in them. They just updated the materials that they give the inspectors at the ports of entry that help the inspectors identify illegal species, so they all know what they're looking for. Not worth the risk IMO...

i wasnt talking about shipping fish, just if the chip was a tracking device or not. jeeebus.

It's pretty easy to get from the US into Canada but the trick is getting back into the US from Canada. Yes ppl do this (with snake heads too) but if you get caught thats a federal offense and you can do some time along with a nice fine... I don't really think it's worth it! just move to Niagra and get a work visa if you have too hahaha
