How water won't crack glass, otherwise you couldn't wash glass dishes in the dishwater either. You just don't want to take a cold tank and drop it in a bathtub of hot water, the sudden change in temp might crack the glass. I soak the glass lids in hot water to get rid of salt and algae build up and have even put the smaller ones in the dishwasher on rinse cycle.

Aren't you contradicting yourself? Hot water won't crack glass. You just don't want to take a cold tank and drop it in a bathtub of hot water, the sudden change in temp might crack the glass.

I'll weigh in on this one. I use flame and ice water to crack/cut glass as a hobby (mostly wine bottles). But the temperature change has to be quick and severe. I'm talking about hundreds of degrees from direct flame to freezing cold, and sometimes it takes more than that. So for what we are talking about here where we are exposing ambient temperature glass (70 degrees F) to water that is hot, but still cool enough to handle (~110 degrees F) , I would be completely shocked if anyone managed to crack their aquarium glass. Lusus' analog was a good one. The dishwasher's clean cycle is actually hotter than most people would care to physically handle (hot enough to cause 2nd degree burns), and is perfectly safe to expose your glassware to. So unless you plan on boiling a pot of water and dumping it into your aquarium you are probably fine to clean with hot water.

update. the chlorine smell is almost gone. i added two feeders as lab rats. they are alive and well so i cant imagine the water is toxic. is this enough proof u think its ok? and i overkilled on prime knowingly lol. it helped alot though with the smell. i have decided im doing salwater finally.

I would have added the same amount of prime.
