Chocolate cichlid beats himself up in the mirror!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agreed. You've basically just introduced a fish of equal dominance in his eyes. So now when he bangs his face off of the glass all day, he has you to thank! Good job.

god...buncha drama queens around here.:chillpill:

Mike, if hes physically hurting himself, you might want to take it down. Otherwise, its no different than having another male in there with him, something people do all over the world on a regular basis.

i agree, i have noticed lately that people are being quite rude, when this is suppose to be a friendly forum thats suppose to help people with fish.

I would remove it, just so he doesn't hurt himself.

The mirror isn't quite like adding another male, the mirror introduces a male that will not back down. The fish can flare and charge and bang the glass all he wants, but that other male will always be there.

I'd advise against the mirror Mike, it probably will eventually cause physical damage to your little buddy, and will definitely stress him out.

I agree, you should remove the mirror. While it may look like the fish is playing and having fun it is actually stressing. It sees the reflection as an intruder in it's territory and is trying to run it off. It obviously cannot be successful at this so it is going to eventually stress the fish out and the fish could hurt itself banging into the glass like that or atleast scuff itself up some.

The fish will probably be happier without the mirror. Maybe less active, but happier;).

LOL.........Drama Queens!!!

Take some vid and post it...may be someone will have a heart attack from the stress!!!

Wow, drama queens is right. Either way, its been a few days and it seems hes learned about himself having a reflection and doesnt bother with it anymore.

My big Oscar likes to ram the glass of his tank but I don't have any mirrors. he rarely fights with his tank mate. I find it rather odd.
