Chocolate cichlid beats himself up in the mirror!

my LFS lady -WILL- tell you to go to hell if you dont have proper housing. I just thought I would add that. SHe is an honest woman that I have I been trading fish back and forth with for 3 years. i buy them...enjoy them...let them get perfect and big ..and people will buy them for insane prices..she knows this...it took her 2 days to sell my female red devil..i miss redina..she was awesome..but she wouldhave killed the two oscars i also gave away (that were bigger than she was) and she killed my male convict....either way....she didnt have a nick on her..nd the oscars (a red and a tiger with a nice EYE tail spot) got me nice credit...i traded them in on advice from THIS forum. Kdrun stuff himself when he says I dont want to take advice...my LFS made atleast 200 bucks off of this forums advice including his. ( i might have paid 50 all together...lol )

Why three posts saying the same thing? What did I say to make you so defensive?

I am sure your LFS is nice and that they are helpful and that you have a great relationship and trust with them. We have an excellent LFS here but they still have plenty of issues and with the number of fish they carry they simply cannot know all the needed information about all of them. Who is saying that firemouths, parrots, peacocks, and chocolates cannot coexist? I have no doubt that that list of fish could live together for a while at a LFS. Non of them are particularly aggressive. Here's the problem though. You say that your LFS knows there stuff and she will tell you to go to hell if you don't have proper housing. She needs to tell herself to go to hell then. Peacocks while similiar aggression wise really need different water requirments and tank setup to thrive long term compared to what a chocolate would like. If she has empty tanks why does she still have them together if she knows all of this stuff about all of the fish? Can they live tegother for a while? Yes. Is it in the best interest of any of the fish. No.

This is not a personally insult about your LFS or the woman running it. It is just they way things are. It doesn't make it a bad store or her a bad owner. It just means that you should be take it upon yourself to know about any fish you are going to purchase before you buy it.

No, mostly what I find for an oscar in a 30 gallon is that it will be quite unhappy although will survive for its expected life expectancy...Also, google is a resource to other fish forums other than this one. THIS is not the only source of information about any sort of fish. Also, when i see folks like kdrun saying you cant mix cichlids like i want to...and I see it done in real life..(and have someone contradict him on this thread or another) it really doesnt do much for my faith in advice of people on this forum. I HAVE followed alot of advice from folks on this forum, and nothing seems to work for me but what Ive found through my own research.

I have yet to see an oscar survive a life expectancy in a 30 gallon without some physical deformity/incurable disease.

I don't see how a lfs can make $200 off 2 oscars and a red devil... they would be sold around $30-40 total at my lfs.
