Every time I wanna get info on a fish I hop on mfk and use there search bar then look at the threads. However I picked up a wild peru chocolate cichlid and there seems to be almost nothing about them on here... I guess a lot people don't keep them? Please post pics of your chocolate cichlids and experiences with them. Mine is about 3 inches and currently hiding from all his new tankmates lol

I had some once they are not very aggressive. They love crickets. They seem to grow a little slower than other cichlids.

heres my spawning pair (also wild caught)
they love water changes, and floating insects(meal worms, crickets and any floating pellet)
mine are alittle aggressive but not to the point were it bothers the other fish to much.
my ph is 7.5(probably should be lower but i dont mess with it if it is stable)
temp is 78 degrees
really not much to keeping them just good food, clean water, stable ph and stable temp and they should do well.
anything else you need to ask feel free to shoot me a pm.

Very nice dude, I guess we'll see if mine can achieve color like that without a mate to impress... The acidic water preference was one of the reasons i got him, as my ph stays around 6 and I don't like messing with it. He's in a 110 with some clown loaches and a big friendly vieja(or apparently now paratheps)

just curious as what "friendly" vieja you have? I only ask cuz i've never owned any friendly vieja's. They all seem to develop nasty attitudes IME.

they seem to adjust pretty well to a wide range of ph so you should be fine.

This my "friendly" vieja he used to be with some geo altifrons, blood parrot, and carpintis and never bothered any of them. He will however not tolerate any other vieja, or fish small enough to eat... There is no flash in the pics his back half is white/silver

Yes I don't think they're rare just not very popular I guess... I mean they aren't the most colorful but older ones certainly look great. I like how it's more of a deep color instead of the usual cichlid shiny scales .

the best fish i ever kept. i dont have any pics. i had a lone male for 4years. never fought with any tankmates i ever put with him. Lived with a EBJd for 2years. I miss that fish so much. I lost him in a move a few years back. He wasn't wild caught if my memory serves me right. his general coloring was different from the ones in this post. he changed colors so drastically it was great. sigh.he was more doglike than my dog....and i still have that dog. wish it were the other way around
