How big it got, who you had it with and how it did. Any info you can find. Try a search on them..theres just not much out there besides can grow quite large, some seem small, I know fish personality varies but just overall experience with them
My brother has one atm, It is still small around 4". He is kind of shy not very active just kind of drifts. He is very mellow. Is with a 7" JD and a 2" GT in a 55. Does not have any agression twards the other fish and is not bothered by any of the other fish.
They are cool fish...relatively mellow...mine didn't bother anybody....could stand their own against semi-aggressive tankmates......can be very aggressive when breeding...
I'd say a single fish is a good tankmate for a variety of CA/SA cichlids.
I just bought 6 2in chocos. and all they do is stay still pointing up. I hope that this behavior is do to the fact that they are in a new setting...we'll see!!!! I will post some pics soon!!!
i had a 6" one for a while in my 125g. he at like a pig. alot of people compare them to oscars. he was a punk in my tank, chased almost every tankmate. i had him with 5 psittacus, a jurupari, sveni pike, indo datnoid, 2 bichirs, and a fei feng. the only ones he didnt chase were the bichirs
i had one, and regularly see two large 12"+ ones at my LFS that are in with rays and geo's.
they are extremely mellow fish, eat like pigs, and seem to enjoy drifting lazily in their tank, just like alot of oscars do. while im sure they can hold their own if they need to, their much happier lounging around not bothering anyone.
I'd compare them to a mellow oscar. We all know how variable O's can be; my choc behaves like one of the mellower ones. Eats like an oscar, very thick, very personable, he's a chaser but never bites or does damage to anything (other than an oscar I had in with him, he beat the O up pretty bad). The head up pose is because their natural food is insects at the surface.
Mine is around 10" now, and pretty close to 2" thick. They're big heavy-bodied fish, I would keep one in a 75G minimum.
