Its normal. just a "fit in " stage mine did the same. later they will do that because they are looking for food. insects on the water

Hi. I got a chocolate cichlid from a friend today who said it was being bullied in his tank by a green terror and texas cichlid. Since i placed it in my setup it been swimming at an unusual angle. slightly tiled head up. is this normal for these fish? or would there be a swim bladder issue? my friend only had it housed for one night where he said it stayed in the top corner of the tank.

what diet have you guys got your chocolate cichlid on? is it possible to feed them pellet? NLS? or should it be insects all the way?

Mine only gets a variety of pellets and the occasional bloodworms. I feed veggies to his tankmates (spinach leaves, Romaine lettuce, peas, etc.) but he never seems to go for those.

i have him housed with some large fronts at this stage as i dont have anywhere else to put him. he seems ok.

glad to hear . . . but don't frontosa and chocolate cichlids prefer dramatically different water conditions?

> frontosa = hard and alkaline
> chocolates = soft and acidic

that could make the acclimation process even more difficult . . . not saying he couldn't adapt over time, but it could be difficult for the chocolate to thrive long-term in a frontosa set-up

No mine never did either...I fed greens and veggies to my uaru, and sometimes my sevs would pick at them, but all meat for the chocolate. They love bugs, any bugs, crickets, roaches, as long as they're not contaminated with any pesticides of course.

oh i should have mentioned i have my fronts in water with PH 7.2..bot too hard..i hope. he seems fine with the fronts at this point. settled in quite well. starting to swim around freely eating from the surface. bloodworm and the odd pellet. the fronts are so peacefull, they really are a lovely fish.
