Chocolate Cichlids and Plecos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most do well in a group, I have that is not so friendly but the rest get along well, they have the occasional bicker but other than that, they work out well.

They eat a mixture of spinach, squash, cucumber, shrimp pellets, market shrimp and their all time favorite are mealworms. They will let everything pass by them but once the mealworms hit the water they go crazy.
Thanks for the feeding info. I have 4 growouts that I believe would eat dirt if I dropped it in the tank. Only one of the 4 has any aggressive tendencies, and it is pretty mild. I hope the additions integrate well and would love to see an update when they get settled.

I wish my plecos came out like that at feeding time! I'm growing out some chocolates and it's nice to see yours arent overly aggressive to smaller fish. I was concerned that the might eat my Australian and Boesemani rainbows.

Do your plecos knock each other around? I had to separate my L114 out due to hyper aggression. Now my L007 has slotted into alpha position and is harassing my L185. I have tons of wood and set up 3 forks with zucchini around the tank daily. There are 2 x L191, an L190, L014 and 2 L/F bushynose in there as well.

Well, I had a few more plecos in there and they are now missing, so either they got killed or just died for whatever reason. Before the L600 addition last week, the L114 was the top dog. I put in a Megalancistrus and the L114 wouldn't leave him alone so took it back out and is in the 75 at the moment, he is way to rare to let that continue. But other than that, it's pretty easy going in there. Now the other 265, has the big pleco, it's not that bad but the Blue Eye doesn't take any crap and neither does the Adonis, the L25 and L24 will have their issues but they resolve it fast without injury. Overall things are were I like them to be.

This is a beautiful tank to look at, those chocolates are nice and chunky great colors

mine are going nuts over black worms at the moment. They like night crawlers and krill pellets as well. but the black worms are snack size for them so they eat them like pigs.
