Chocolate cichlids mouth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know none of this is encouraging, and it is a painful lesson for you, and any and all aquarists in why we need quarantine tanks.
Now, you will probably need to sterilize the entire display tank, starting over any cycle that has been done, because the bleach will kill, and needs to kill everything to prevent the disease from killing any fish you put in the tank next. Any beneficial bacteria you have grown during your initial cycle will be gone, as they are much more sensitive than the pathogenetic columnarus.

I checked my PH with api kit and it was pretty high at 8.4 I can’t find the other info you asked on my water providers website. Ya I figured I would be Deading my cycle with the bleach which sucks. Paying the price for neglecting a quarantine tank I guess.

Normally a pH of 8.4 indicates your water is not great for soft water types from the Amazon area of South America, like chocolates, Uaru, Geophagines of that area causing chronic problems, especially in adults.
An 8.4 pH water would work well with Central American or Rift Lake Africans.
I always try to tailor my fish to the water I have, trying to fight it is almost always a losing battle.

Thanks so much. I admit I jumped the gun with this cichlid and should have been more knowledgeable on those facts before I got him. Lesson learned.

I treated by flowerhorn with duck lips with metro and water changes every 2-3 days in a tub

Tub was placed in outdoor area

It was slow but he recovered... took me 1.5-2 months though
