What is the deal with chocoloate cichlids? I have a cichlid book that states they are a robust cichlid able to hold their own in a larger cichlid community and can get quite beligerant among their own kind. Mine has been a wimp from day one! I put him in a cichlid community with a jag,jd,gt,firemouth, and nicaraguensis and he just wimps out at every confrontation and now he is getting beat on. How about your experiences with chocolates, tough or wimpy?

Mine are tough and live with jd,firemouths, red devils, red texas, parrots, and many viejas.
Guess I just was unlucky and got a wimp.

Mine lives with uaru and some convicts...for awhile the uaru chased it but now they get along, the choc chases the cons but they're small.

I even put him in the tank at about an inch larger than the other fish and still gets pushed around.

well, you just put it in with fish who have been in the tank for a while. of course it's a wimp. Try rearranging the tank, so all the fish need to establish new territories. then it will be on even footing and maybe integrate a little better

I just got one. He is about 6 inches long and he is pretty laid back. Does not bother anyone. There is a slightly smaller FH that chases the chocoloate all over the place. I always understood the chocoloates to be one of the more less aggressive cichlids.
