Chocolate Pleco in Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Winters in Kansas are COLD...so he can only stay in the pond from May thru October, unless we decide to heat it for him. Otherwise, he will have to come inside for the winter.

Yes, I love watching him flare his fin when the other fish start schooling around him! I am just happy he is not bothering them. If he starts, he will need to find a new home LOL.

Here are some not so great pictures of Ralph in the pond I took with my phone camera yesterday. I will try to get better ones when it stopps raining. I have noticed the pleco turning a brighter color since his exposure to the natural light in the pond.

The pleco is still doing good. I am seeing less of him since the plants in the pond have really filled in. He comes up in the evening when the other fish are hand fed. He wont get too close yet, but he watches from the 1ft shelf in the pond right below where they are feeding. I have given up on trying to feed him any sort of vegetation that is not already in the pond. I have tried all the suggested fruit and veggies and he wont touch any of it. He only eats the algae and plants in the pond. Every few days I give him some canned shrimp or blood worms. Cant wait to get pictures of him this fall when we take him out.
