Chocolate vs GT.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got my first two chocolates about three months agos. I had heard they were gentle and also heard they were quite mean. But these went into a 150 with other mostly peaceful fish: 4 Geo. surinamensis, 2 G. braziliensis, 2 Congo tetra (the last survivors of several old ones), pair of albino Angels, 3 giraffe cats, some diamond tetras + a few algae eating fish. The chocolates are about 4" at present. So far they totally ignore the other fish, but I may have two males as one shows a bit of agression towards the other, so far with no damage. May eventually have to move one to another tank but that's o.k.

Really cool fish though, sort of the oscar shape without the oscar attitude.

Yeah the GT is only about 4". He started out with internal parasites so that slowed him down to begin with.

I can see how IP's would slow growth, but normally, I feel the idea that GT's are slow growers is a misconception since they are usually mixed in 'high agression' community tanks with RD's and such, and they usually lose out (not always though).

In my tank with mostly peaceful fish, I bought a 3" GT that tripled in size over the last seven months.

I was surprised to see the fast growth, but then again I feed high protein diet with weekly 50-70% WC's

I added the Con and he got chased quite a bit by both the Choc and the GT. They seemed to settle a bit after a couple hours. We will see how it goes.

I have a chocolate that's only 3.5", but he thinks he's the boss of everything - chasing around bigger fish! Also, totally bossing around a severum his same size. He seems kind of aggro now, but we'll see how it turns out!

My choc was totally laid back until I put in a black belt and he seemed to go off. Now things are kinda settled down, the choc is still a mostly very docile fish.

The Con is now keeping the GT in check. lol

My chocolate keeps himself to himself however that doesnt mean he can stand up for himself. Green terrors aint called Terrors for nothing, IMO ditch the GT and Let the Chocolate grow up to its full potential. Chocolates are far less common in the hobby than GT's too.

Heres a head shot of mine.
