ok so i have faith in you guys sooo i am stumped between 3 ideas for my next tank, a 3 gallon.:irked:
here they are:
6-9 bumble bee gobies and driftwood with some java moss in brackish water

1-3 south american mini bumblebee catfish and 1 pair of endlers livebearers

or 1 hillstream loach and 6-9 assorted danios(zebras, leopards, blues, pearls) or 1 hillstream loach and 6-9 white cloud minnows.

ok so lets hear them!!! please put in your input on which one you choose and why. also yes it will be slightly overstocked, but the tank will have a 80 gph power filter on it, so no worries on filtration.:D thnx

I think the only thing that should be placed in a 3 gallon is a betta. You could go with gobies but I would only get a couple or you will be overstocked. The fish need to be able to move around.

:iagree:

hadnt read it was a three gal tho the bumblebee catfish only gets to about 2 inches depending on species they could get larger

i was interested in getting some of these guys for myself so I did some reaserch. I got mixed results.

[FONT=arial, verdana, helvetica]Batrachoglanis raninus gets to be 6 inch

others said 2 inches

can you give me the scientific name of the one you are getting I would like some

you got it let me find it first. also the gobies are barely 1 1/4 inches long max size, they have plenty of room. the catfish just sits in a crack or driftwood and waits for food. and the hillstream loach sits on the bottom waiting for brineshrimp and the whiteclouds or danios just cruise the top.

you would be surprised how much catfish swim my raphy cats are very active at around three in the morning. I would get at least a ten gal the happier you make your fisht eh happier they will make you.

do you buy off of that site cause those cats just look adorable I think I want like 5 lol
where do you buy yours?

the lfs orders them for me. but they are the same species. i have been watching a group of bumblebee gobies, 2 bumblebee catfish, and the hillstream loach at the lfs for quite some time now. now i just gotta decide. the bumblebees actually do just sit there. they have a little rock pile and they just sit their with their tails or whisckers sticking out of the rocks.

well since the only posts where about the bee cat, i am leaning that way now, anyone else got anything to say?

With small tanks, having the ability to keep your water parameters stable is more important than the fish haveing enough space. And in a tank that small, I don't think it would be easy to maintain it as a brackish tank, and the other options would be overstocked (and you do not want to overstock a tank that small, or you'll end up with dangerous levels of ammonia and nitrite). Your have three options: one betta, one honey gourami, or a freshwater invert tank, I can't think of anything else that wouldn't be overstocked.

heres a link to a place selling them its their page on bumblebees http://www.petsolutions.com/Bumble-Bee-Catfish+I48030+C40001574.aspx
and the scientific name is Microglanis iheringi they are lucky to get 3 inches, so no worries on him.
A 3" fish will be too big for your tank. You need something in the 1-2" range.

Scientific Name: Microglanis Iheringi
Recommended Aquarium: 30+ Gallons
Approx. Adult Size: 4 inches
