Choosing a Light

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Love the kessil lights cuz of the natural shimmering effect it gives off. But the colors are boring and doesn't bring out the colors in the fish. If u want nice shimmering effect kessil is the one. But if u want colors to come out. You're better off spending less and get led fixtures. But to me, T5s with some nice bulbs are the best for fish colors.

This is from a test that someone allegedly did independently. I found another that put it at 148. This would be at maximum output though, which is not the default setting. I did see another source that listed it lower, but didn’t give any details about methodology or what settings the light was on, or if a test was really conducted at all

Edit: Now that I think of it, I doubt this can be trusted at all. It doesn’t even say what size light they tested and on top of that I don’t know if adjusting all the spectrums to max is really a good idea or if it was just done to skew the numbers to look good

Well one thing is for sure, if you try the light and your plants don’t thrive, you could always add another. Also, these tests have many variables…whether you’re tank has a lid or not, the clarity of the water the light is passing through, etc.

Yeah, that’s about where I’m at right now. I’ll just have to pick one to try and go from there. Think I’m going to turn it into a temperate tank with fish that don’t really jump, so should be able to get away with no lid. Thanks for all the help

Side note, I keep limia nigrofasciata in one of my tanks. They shimmer like mad under even my cheap lights. I bet they would look unreal under those tuna sun lights
