Hi I'm considering buying a Midas, I really like the orange and white mottled ones. Is there anyway of selecting a young one with these characteristics?

afraid not, the only way is to buy of someone privatly so you can see the parents and then theres no guarantee its down to the genes... theres a nice male at about 10inches for sale down the road from me at a store called westmore pets in rainham kent... im in kent uk and i currently have fry from my orange female and tri colour male (orange yellow and black). never posted any but would consider it once they've grown a bit if you are interested? they are 10 days old atm and about 3mm long, seperated them today into a 5 gallon cube tank, got about 500 lol!DSC_0031.JPGDSC_0101.JPG

I would buy your grandfish any day! Looking for somethinglike his father for years!

As for the OP, it is impossible to know what is in the Midas, as Justarn said. Even barred ones fade...

yeah, check my barred midas thread, the male in the pic above never faded until he was 8-9 inch! cheers miguel, if you do a bit or research send me the stuff and money to post you some fry and i'll follow ur instructions and send em off once they are bigger if you want, the fish stores send fish all over the world after all! if you are really that interested pm me.

We will talk about that, surely :)

You will gorw this whole batch and cull at 2 / 2.5 inches? What are your plans?

i have no idea yet, if im honest ive not bothered with any of the fry from the last two spawns and i left them in the community where they all got picked of quickly. i have a 15g that i may be able to make available and im now thinking of buying a cheap 4ft tank of ebay since you mention it! on top of this my dovii have just layed aswell for their first time!!!

You will need the extra space

strange enough i had a look through your thread about the progression of your midas and was left feeling envious, never seen one like yours before. id be more than happy to buy from you mate, im in birmingham so postage would be the only option. how long do you think they would be big enough to ship out?

not sure, guess they'll need to be 4-5cm?
