I doubt of your chupacabra teory because as of now there isnt a single species of "land octopus", wich doesant mean that in a very far away future like 50 million years from now a group of cephalops will not find a way to live permanently out of the water
Octopus are good candidate because they can creep and walk unlike many others cephalopds, and even today some octopus are able to exploit the intertidal pools and even leave them to cach baby marine turtles and crabs, pretty cool. I also have my own teory about the chupacabra, its a litle less imaginative then yours but none the less fictisial until other wise is proven

I think the chupacabra is a ancient breed of dogs, originaly bred by people like the maia, wich had lots of bloody rituals and somewere along in there evolucion as a breed along side this people this dogs developed a taste for blood and gut coming from the human and animal sacrifice these people did. They were essencialy a bigger and much bulkier version of the mexican crested dog(close breeds are also the chinese crested dog and the chiuaua), with big heads but still very lean. Their main caracteristic that stands out is their almost complete lack of fur. The maia and other major central and south american civilazations died out and so the dogs were abandoned. The native kept the smaller versions as pets wich are the antecendents of the mexican crested dog, but this blood sirsty dogs falled into forgetness. They since then survived wild in the jungles of central america and turned into legends when some westerns called them chupacabras. There is a very sligth chance of this being true. What inspired my teory was that proposed chupacabras that was shot and its posted in the web. It looked like a pit bull with its ears up and a skin like the skin of a chinese crested dog
If this somehow some way its true we must take very serious steps in order to find and save the chupacabra because they must be in VERY SERIOUS trobble. I bet that animal if it wasnt a fraud, was one of the last pure animals. These dogs must be in trobble because of killing from the farmers but specialy from crossbreding with stray dogs wich puts in danger the purity of the breed. If its true this is one of the most extraordinary animals in the face of the earth. Created by man, refined by nature and the biggest animal to eat blood as part of its main diet
